Target Audience and Obstructions

I have begun to think more deeply about the target audience for the Sky Arts channels. These are my initial thoughts:

- Sophisticated
- More matrure audiences/viewers?
- Perhaps an age range of 30 - 50 with a few exclusions? Maybe 25 - 40?
- Posh
- Even though Sky Arts 1 states that it is mroe contemporary, I don't think that the programme listings would suit a younger audience at all.
- I think that it has a lot to do with the viewers interests, background and personality also. As to whether they would have an interest in the channels or not.
- Someone who perhaps attends concerts where earlier generations of bands play? Ballet/Orchestras etc?

I came up with a list of possible obstructions that could be a problem in my work.

- Time
- Cost
- Target Audience
- Copyright Issues
- Space
- Materials
- Equipment

Session 2 Reflections

In this session, there was a change to the original plan, which meant that we were paired with illustrators, in order to help us to visualise our ideas, and to begin to get them down on paper.

We created some rough short storyboards to show and represent thoughts and ideas. This was a very fast way of working for me, and it was initially very difficult to get started, or know where infact to start. However. once I got going, the ideas were relatively easy to think of, as new ones were sprung from previous ones. This method really helped me to work quickly and I think that this is a great way to get some ideas flowing and to get thinking about the final outcome in more detail.

The outcome that we together came up with, is in my work sketchbook.

What is Art?

I drew a quick mind map on the topic, 'What is Art?', as I wanted to start thinking about the content of my sting.

Session 1 Reflections

In this session the variety of motion design skills were discussed, in terms of which needed to be worked on and improved on further. This, I found to be very useful as it helped me to reflect on my skills so far, and which areas needed to have more time spent on them.
Also the discussion of the years progression and where the course will lead to was very informative and encouraged me to think more about the future and potential routes to explore.

In this session, the brief was also introduced to us. I was initially very excited about this brief, because I hoped that it would help to give me a better insight into the industry world in television and film. However my excitement soon turned to apprehension when I looked at the previous winner, runners up and other entrants. Though, on reflection of this, I believe that the high standard of previous work will spur me on to try to create something even better.

The first logical step for the brief was to begin research into the Sky Arts brand ethics, values and the channel in general. What I also saw to be very important in my research was to find out and explore the intended target audience for the Sky Arts channel, as clearly this will directly affect the content of the sting, and how it is presented overall. So this is the step that I am going to concentrate on and gather information for.
